The One Thing I Cannot Quit

Have you ever been frustrated with something to the point at which you
felt you needed to quit? There have been many times in my life when I said
that I’m going to stop writing altogether. I was burned out and determined to
hang up my pen once and for all. For some unexplainable reason, I thought I
had already used up all my creativity; it was time to make way for all those
who were just starting off with something of their own to say.

One can guess how many times I’ve been successful at quitting
writing, and correct answer would be zero! The only time that I’ve come
relatively close was in 2010, when I went nearly seven months without writing
anything, except what was required for work. That failed trial was followed by
a literal explosion of words. I’d started writing more poetry and prose; my
muse returned with a vengeance, outraged that I tried to keep her locked up all
that time! As a result, I wrote lots more poetry and started two novels—one
which did not take me very long to complete.

There have been some more great bouts. One had started in 2013 and
came creeping all the way into 2014. I penned lots of poems, quotes, short
stories, essays, and had started three more big novels, a cookbook, and a
memoir. No wonder my poor mind felt so exhausted much of the time.
I was also tired of reading. My brain was officially on strike, and I
didn’t even want to digest any words! And when I did have to “choke down”
some literature, I tried to do so as quickly as possible.

2016 was a milestone for me. That was the year when I broke into
traditional publishing with Pen It! Publications. They initially accepted six of
my children’s picture books. And while I was very proud of each and every one
of my self-published titles, I was simply ecstatic to expand my horizons. I have
since had more titles published by Pen It! Publications, as well as gained
another publisher, Per Bastet Publications. As a result, I’ve earned more
respect as a local author and have sold more copies of my books at events.

In summation, let me just say one thing; I’ve reached the conclusion
that I cannot quit writing, it’s in my blood! I’ve come too far to abandon what I
set out to do all those years ago.

Review for Heart of a Lion

Hey All!!!

Today I have another book review, this time I am fortunate to be part of a blog tour for Stephen Zimmer who was looking for honest reviews of his newest novel Thunder Horizon: the second novel in the Dark Sun Dawn series. He graciously provided a PDF copy and I agreed to read it free of charge.

The series follows the journey of Rayden Valkyrie. Now prior to signing up for this tour I had not read either novel so I decided to review the first novel Heart of a Lion.  So without farther delay here it is.

Heart of a Lion follows warrior and hunter Rayden Valkyrie. She is honestly one of the best female protagonists I've seen. She isn't the slightest bit whiny has so many are in novels but she isn't so powerful that she is emotionless, rather she is a very caring person that is willing to go to great lengths to defend what she believes in. The characters are all very realistic, I've found it to be quite easy to forget you're reading a novel

This novel is fast paced and action packed, I personally think this novel is best suited for people aged 18 and up of course that is completly at the readers discreation.
I would describe this series as a cross between Lord of the Rings, Xena and maybe Game of Thrones.
The novel as a whole is incredibly well written with impeccable detail that makes you feel as though you are right there with them on the battlefield. I would definitely recommend this novel.

If anyone would like to buy either novel you can easily find them using one of the links below.  I've even included some still shots from Mr Zimmer's TV Pilot!
Well that's it for now.

Wishing you all happy reading!
                                                  -Trisha

Book Synopsis for Thunder Horizon: A deadly menace stalks the shadows of the lands to the
north, stirring the winds of war. Farther south, the power of the Teveren Empire spreads with
every passing day, empowered by dark sorcery. Formidable legions bent on conquest are on
the march, slavery and subjugation following in their wake.
Within the rising maelstrom, Rayden Valkyrie has returned to the Gessa, to stand with the tribe
that once took her into their care as a child. No amount of jewels or coin can sway her, nor can
the great power of her adversaries intimidate her.
With a sword blade in her right hand and axe in her left, Rayden confronts foes both
supernatural and of flesh and blood. Horrific revelations and tremendous risks loom; some that
will see Rayden's survival in the gravest of peril.
Even if Rayden and the Gessa survive the trials plaguing their lands, the thunder of an even
darker storm booms across the far horizon.
Thunder Horizon is the second book in the Dark Sun Dawn Trilogy.

Book Synopsis for Heart of a Lion: Rayden Valkyrie. She walks alone, serving no king, emperor,
or master. Forged in the fires of tragedy, she has no place she truly calls home.

A deadly warrior wielding both blade and axe, Rayden is the bane of the wicked and corrupt. To
many others, she is the most loyal and dedicated of friends, an ally who is unyielding in the
most dangerous of circumstances.
The people of the far southern lands she has just aided claim that she has the heart of a lion.
For Rayden, a long journey to the lands of the far northern tribes who adopted her as a child
beckons, with an ocean lying in between.
Her path will lead her once more into the center of a maelstrom, one involving a rising empire
that is said to be making use of the darkest kinds of sorcery to grow its power. Making new
friends and discoveries amid tremendous peril, Rayden makes her way to the north.
Monstrous beasts, supernatural powers, and the bloody specter of war have been a part of her
world for a long time and this journey will be no different. Rayden chooses the battles that she
will fight, whether she takes up the cause of one individual or an entire people.
Both friends and enemies alike will swiftly learn that the people of the far southern lands spoke
truly. Rayden Valkyrie has the heart of a lion.
Heart of a Lion is Book One of the Dark Sun Dawn Trilogy.

REVIEW: Journey To Love, by Nicole A. Schmidt

Hey All!!!

I was recently given the honor of reviewing Nicole A. Schmidts new poem collection "Journey To Love" which will be available on Valintines day 2017!

This book is quite different from her previous collection of poems, as you probably guessed this collection is about love and the journey you have to take in order to find it, This collection is geared towards a more mature crowd, her poems are formatted so that it feels as though you are having a conversation with her. This collection shows a more realistic side to trying to find love in the modern world. Just as with her first collection it does have a christian undertone but not so heavily that people with other beliefs would feel uncomforable.

To me this collection is every relatable and touching, as you read deeper and deeper into the collection you see the personal growth and you feel the powerful emotions as she learns who she is and what she wants. It is truely a powerful and inspirational collection, one I think is well worth a read.

Schmidt has a way of touching her readers and making contact with them on a personal level, in a way that I have never seen before. I highly reccomend her collections to anyone new to poetry or that's just wanting something different from the normal arrray of poetry. So check out "Journey to Love" on Amazon when it debuts on Tuesday!

Review for Nacreous by Sarah Elle Emm

Hey all, I just got done with Nacreous the 4th book in the Harmony run series by Sarah Elle Emm. It is a fasanating read filled with action and it keeps you on the edge of your seat.  Below is a summery from good reads.

After two members of The Freedom Front are arrested and interrogated by the UZTA's tyrannical President Nicks, Rain Hawkins and her friends face the alarming reality that their plans to liberate the mixed zones across the United Zones of The Authority might not come to fruition. While the resistance movement is growing outside the walls of the zones, the president's forces are strengthening and putting citizens everywhere in more peril than ever. When Rain receives warnings that her cousin, Calista, has agreed to support plans to kill the mixed zones, and that her life could be on the line at the upcoming pure zone initiation ceremony, she must decide where her loyalties lie and if all of her allies can be trusted. As The Freedom Front use their abilities to unravel the mystery of the ceremony, The Authority captures some of their friends, forcing TFF to either go into hiding, or plan a rescue mission that could jeopardize everything they've been fighting for.

It is a very entertaining novel that I highly recommend.

Interview with Nicole A. Schmidt

Hey all,

Sorry for not blogging more but it's been a busy past few months. I recently reviewed poetry by Nicole A. Schmidt and was given the enormous honor of  interviewing her. Here is the interview I hope you all enjoy.

1.Why did you write "Inside a young soul"?

Initially I wrote the poems because I needed to vent. I wasn't a rebellious teen so this was my way of getting it all out. Even then, I knew I wanted to publish it so that others would know they weren't alone.

2.Why did you choose to put a “Notes, Reactions, write-a- like” area after each poem?
I wanted my readers to be able react to the text. I wanted them to have the opportunity to get their feelings out too, even their feelings were the opposite of mine. Teenagers are silenced much more than they should be.

3.Do you have a poem that is your favorite or that is the most personal?
I can't say I have a favorite, but I can say that I remember the exact instance or person each poem is about.

4.What was the idea behind these poems?

It was my way to address my emotions. I couldn't share them with the person they were about so I wrote them down. They had to come out one way or another so that I could move forward.

5.You have spots after some poems for "Artistic representation", what are you hoping that youths will do with this page?
Some teens are intimidated by writing, especially poetry. I never intended for them write poetry in the notes section, but I'm sure many will assume so. The artistic representation just provides another avenue for expression. They can draw, paint, collage, whatever their hearts desire.

6.What are you hoping people will take from your poems?
I hope that they comfort those who can relate to the disappointments and struggles in the poems. I hope that the joy in some of them make people laugh and smile. I hope that my readers are able to reminisce about their own experiences. I hope that they are encouraged and realize that it if I can get past these things so can they. Finally, I hope that the book itself reminds them that dreams can be realized. In the poem "Excuuoooooze Me" I share my desire to attend Maryland, teach, and publish a book. All three goals gave been accomplished. If I can do it, so can my readers.

7.Why did you choose to write poetry?
I'm musically inclined. I sing as well so poetry comes naturally to me.

8.Are you planning to publish more books of poetry in the future?
I'm in the process of compiling the next collection entitled, Journey to Love: Vol. 1. It's about knowing that you will get married, but enjoying the journey until you do. This collection is also broken into sections and has reflection pages, but it will also include short essays.

9.Did you have any poets that inspired you to write?

My favorite author is J. California Copper, who wrote short stories and novels. I enjoy Maya Angelo, Gwendolyn Brooks, Langston Hughes, etc, but they didn't inspire me. It has always been innate in me, it's in my DNA.

Review for Inside a young soul

Hey all, I have been reading a book by Nicole A. Schmidt.

Inside a young soul is a book of poems which she wrote when she was younger. This novel is very heartfelt and is very easy to relate to for a lot of women. It is targeted towards young teen girls and its poems cover religion, family, and relationships. It is very powerful, and it is hard to believe that she was so young while writing it. In the novel there are spots that are titled: Notes , Reactions, write-a -like" In other chapters there is spots for you to draw. It is very interactive and I highly recommend it to young adults and teens. It perfectly embodies what being a teenage girl feels like it.

Review for Suprnova by Braxton A. Cosby

Hey all,

I've finished Supernova by Braxton A. Cosby.  I know I have been posting a lot about his novels but honestly here recently the majority of the books I've read were his. Supernova is the 2nd book in the Protostar series, it takes place right after the first novel and follows William and Sydney while they try to discover more about the Star child existence. During the length of the novel she evolves into the next stage of star child. Supernova. William then does his best to figure out the truth behind what is making Sydney act so odd.

This novel is fast paced, it is extremely well written. I was very excited to find that this book is just as good as the first novel. In the past I have read saga's and trilogies just to find that the first book is good but the second book is lacking, I will get into why I'm not a fan of most trilogies and sagas at a later date.Cosby makes a flowing series that leaves the readers craving more. The characters grow over the course of the two novels and there is always something going on. I was very happy with this novel and I highly recommend any of his books. His novels never cease to amaze me, he is an incredible talent and is well worth a look.  For now Trisha signing off.

Spirit Lake Review

Hey all! I just finished Spirit Lake by Tamar Hela.  It is the first novel in her series and over all its pretty good. Her story is about six teenagers from nothern california that are assigned a project for school. They end up on Cantelia and find that there is a dark ruler that placed a curse over the native people of the island Sikuku Island. The teens agree to help them break the curse so that they can come back to earth.
The novel is strong. She brings together two different genres and blends them together seamlessly. I am truly impressed by her writing talent.I believe that this is an author with a very bright future ahead of her.  For now Trisha Signing off.

Review for ProtoStar By Braxton A. Cosby

Hey  all, I  just  got  done  with  reading  ProtoStar  by  Braxton  A.  Cosby.  First  off  I  have  to  say that  when  I  got  the  email asking  if  I  would  like  to  review  another  of  Mr  Cosby's  novels  I jumped  at  the  chance  to  review  it. I  knew  that  I  would  not  be  disappointed  and  I  wasn't.  Mr  Cosby  has  a  way  of  creating characters  that  are  so  lifelike  and  story  lines  that  are  strong  and  intense,  I  found  myself  not  wanting  to  stop  reading.  I  will  add  the  blurb  from  the  back  of  the  book  so  that  you  all  can  draw  your  own  conclusions.

On the brink of civil war, the Torrian Alliance continues with its mission to obliterate Star-children across the universe in order to suppress an intergalactic evil. Following the recommendations of his council, King Gregorio Derry reluctantly agrees to send his only son William on a mission to restore honor to his family name. William seeks to complete his assignment, the elimination of a Star-child named Sydney on planet Earth, but when the assassination is delayed he begins to realize an emotional connection with his target. With conspiracy threatening his home planet, and a hidden menace on Earth seeking to secure a vested interest, William finds himself torn between irrevocable duty and sacrificing everything he stands for to defend Sydney. As William and Sydney struggle to overcome their impossible circumstances, they start to wonder if the connection of two Star-Crossed lovers will be enough to save them from certain doom.

I  will  admit  I  am  not  a   huge  fan  of   books  involving  space   and  aliens  but  this   book  did  impress  me.  I  think  after  this  I  just  might  start  looking  in  the  science fiction   section  of  my  library  more  often.  I  am  highly  recommending  this  novel  to  anyone  that  has  had  issues  getting  into  Science  fiction  novels  or  anyone  that  just  wants  a  really  intense  and  wonderful  read.   Also  this  is  a  romance  science  fiction  novel.  I  will  also  say  that  i  usually  have  a  hard  time  reading  romance  but  this  wasn't  dripping  with  romance.  I  truly  have  to  tip  my  hat  to  Mr  Cosby for  putting  two  of  my  least  favorite  genres  together  and  making  it  amazing.   I  look  forward  to  reading  more  from  him,  and  I  think  he  is  becoming  one  of  my  favorite  authors.  I  highly  suggest  you  check  out  his  books.   That's  all  for  now,  Trisha  Signing  off.

Review of "The Sect:The Windgate" by Braxton, A Cosby

Cover for Windgate
I had the honor of reading this book by Braxton A. Cosby.  This novel is unlike other YA and NA books you may read. It follows a man who is recruited into a group called the sect. This novel is a faith filled heart pumping read that has caused me to have a little more faith in modern christian novels. This novel deals with the spiritual gifts and follows the sect as they work to banish demons from the world and bring love and hope back to humanity. I know it may not sound thrilling but it certainly is. The detail that Mr Cosby applied to this novel and the wording will leave you captivated and wanting more, he is a truly skilled author and I felt myself being pulled deep into the pages of this novel, I felt as though I could feel what the characters were feeling and see what they were seeing. I am truly impressed and look forward to seeing more from him in the future. I am highly recommending this to anyone wanting something different in faith based novels. I can't even think of enough good things to say about his writing, very rarely you find an author that can transport you into their world and make you not want to leave. I am so grateful that I was given the opportunity to read it.
For now Trisha Signing off.

Jen Minkman Interview

Here is an interview with Jen Minkman author of the Space in Between.

1.where do your ideas come from?
If I knew that, I'd go out to the place where they float around and put them in a bottle :) Honestly, I don't know. Inspiration is a mysterious thing, but I think it helps that I read a lot of books besides writing them.

2.how long have you been writing?
I started writing stories when I was nine, but my first 'real' book was finished in 2009 and published in 2012.

3.can you tell what your next project is?
I'm currently in the middle of a fantasy/dystopian series called Tales of Skylge. Book 2 is almost done and book 3 should be available in April!

4.how do you categorize you are writing style?
It's always YA style. Either that or NA. My stories are always about love, the state of the world, and/or the supernatural.

5.do you have any advice for young writers?
Just write a lot so you get better and better! Don't think you'll get the hang of it in a few months' time - take time to invest in yourself.

6. Do you have any particular writing process that you go through to get your work from idea to publishable?
Not really, but I do need to be able to devote entire days to writing if I want to get anywhere, so I make sure I have at least one day a week where I can focus solely on writing. Sometimes, I take two afternoons or mornings, that works as well.

7.Do you have a favorite book you've written?
All my books are my favorites, in a way :) It just depends on the mood I'm in which one I'll pick at any given time.

8.Do you have a favorite character from your books?
I liked writing Alisa and Saul in The Deep, especially their relationship. Saul was initially a bad guy, and then he surprised me by being far more three-dimensional than I expected. Sometimes, my own characters take me by surprise.

9. Are there any authors you look up to or look too for inspiration?
No, I like reading certain authors, but I'll never consciously look at them or their work for inspiration. The world around me inspires me enough!

10. How are you hoping to see yourself in 10 years career wise?
I'll hopefully be a full-time writer and translator by then, living abroad in different countries around the world with my husband (who works for an international company, so we wouldn't be traveling around without any financial security!)

11.  what is your favorite part of being an author?
Being your own boss, in many ways.

12. How to come up with your characters?
They are all a part of me. It just depends on which part of me is most vocal at the time of writing a new book. Sometimes, I also let people around me inspire me to come up with supporting characters, but I guess the main character is always 'me' in a certain way.

13. Can you tell me a little bit about what inspired you to start writing?
I think it was because I read so many books at a young age. Reading all those stories and having a vivid imagination prompted me to want to write my own stories down.

Deadgirl interview.

Hey all well I recently got the chance to interview author of Dead girl  B.C.Johnson and this is what she had to say.

1. Where did you get the idea for your book?

My older brother Bill and I have always been working on this sort of “supernatural horror” type

universe, something we just started chatting about in the swimming pool as kids and just never stopped

building. At this point the whole universe pretty much just floats around in our brains like gumbo, but

we do plan on doing something with it at some point. Deadgirl is sort of the first major stab at the

universe.

What Lucy becomes in Deadgirl is a new monster idea I had during those talks. What if a person was

supposed to die but just . . . didn’t?

2. How long did it take you to write it?

I’m not the fastest writer on the Earth, and by that I mean I’m super, duper slow. When I’m writing I

pound out the words like a mad man, but I’ll go months in between projects, or I’ll get stuck and have to

come back weeks later. I’m a “fits and starts” kind of writer, in general.

I started Deadgirl during the 2008 NaNo, but I didn’t finish the manuscript until late 2009. Most of my

books take about a year-and-a-half, generally. That’s not counting the abandoned books, of which there

are many. When I fall out of love with an idea, I fall hard and smash my face and never want to see it

again.

3.What is your writing process like? Do you storyboard?

Every book ends up using a different process, so I guess I just use whatever feels right for the book. I

wrote Deadgirl in one linear shot without any storyboarding – I knew the ending, I knew the characters,

and I just ran as fast as I could toward it.

The Deadgirl sequel, which is finished and winging toward the publisher within the next few weeks,

involved a ton of outlining. I even broke it down by acts, chapters, and scenes before I wrote a single

word. The story was more complex, and the world was getting bigger, and it was really important to

keep track of everything.

Other books I’ve done some mixture. I almost always write linearly, though – beginning to end. I’ve

never been good about jumping around through the timeline. Some writers love it, but I kind of want to

hear the story as I write it.

4.Should we all be on the look out for anymore books after this one?

Definitely! Unless the publishers hate the sequel (pleasenopleasenopleaseno) I’m hoping that will be out

within the next year, but there’s nothing official. Just desperate hope, which is where I tend to live.  I

have a short story in the second annual Curiosity Quills Anthology, which is out at the end of November I

believe.

After that I have a few manuscripts finished, and we’ll see where those take us. I do think the Deadgirl

series will be four books – I’ve already got the third book written almost entirely in my head, I just have

to pour it onto a keyboard.

5.How long have you been writing?

I’ve been dabbling since I was seven, but I don’t count that. I’ve been seriously writing since I was 19, so

10 years? Geez, 10 years. Well now I feel old.

6.Do you draw inspiration from any others?

Everyone and everything. Movies, TV, books, video games – I find the more I consume, the more I write,

and the better my writing gets. You can’t not help learning by exposure. You’ll absorb lessons about

storytelling by accident if nothing else.

7.Do you have any advice for young writers?

Kinda nicking off what I said earlier, but read. Read everything, in every genre that you love or want to

learn about. Pay attention to the exact moment when you started digging a character and take notes.

Pay attention to when the book gets boring, and write down why. When you’re reading a book that you

don’t want to stop, and it leaves you reading all night, try to figure out why (and more importantly how)

it’s doing that. Is there constant tension? That works for some people. Is there a good ebb and flow of

action, moments where the characters are allowed to relax? Some people prefer that, the “day in the

life” approach. Know what you want to write and do it on purpose, that’s the key.

Learn to read like a writer. Try to predict what’s going to happen next, and see if you’re happy or

disappointed when you’re proved right. If the writer pulls of a spectacular twist that blows your mind,

start looking back at the train tracks the writer laid earlier in the book to make certain he’d hit you with

the train in that exact spot.

And last but not least, write. Write when it’s great, write when it sucks, write when you’re tired, write

when you had a bad day, write when you just recovered from a stab wound (but don’t write while

receiving a stab wound), write on your birthday.

Look back a year ago – wouldn’t it be awesome if you’d started writing a book that day? So do it now,

and next year you’ll be like “Past-Me! You kick a$$!”

Donna of the Dead by Alison Kemper

Hey all well today I have a review for a book that I read a while back ago. Donna of the Dead by Allison Kemper. Below I will have the excerpt.

Donna Pierce might hear voices, but that doesn’t mean she’s crazy. Probably.
The voices do serve their purpose, though—whenever Donna hears them, she knows she’s in danger. So when they start yelling at the top of their proverbial lungs, it’s no surprise she and her best friend, Deke, end up narrowly escaping a zombie horde. Alone without their families, they take refuge at their high school with the super-helpful nerds, the bossy head cheerleader, and—best of all?—Liam, hottie extraordinaire and Donna’s long-time crush. When Liam is around, it’s easy to forget about the moaning zombies, her dad’s plight to reach them, and how weird Deke is suddenly acting toward her.
But as the teens’ numbers dwindle and their escape plans fall apart, Donna has to listen to the secrets those voices in her head have been hiding. It seems not all the zombies are shuffling idiots, and the half-undead aren’t really down with kids like Donna…

Here and Now by Ann Brashares

Hey ALL!!! Well this one is a YA Romance that involves time travel. Below is the Excerpt for this book.

Follow the rules. Remember what happened. Never fall in love.

This is the story of seventeen-year-old Prenna James, who immigrated to New York when she was twelve. Except Prenna didn’t come from a different country. She came from a different time—a future where a mosquito-borne illness has mutated into a pandemic, killing millions and leaving the world in ruins.

Prenna and the others who escaped to the present day must follow a strict set of rules: never reveal where they’re from, never interfere with history, and never, ever be intimate with anyone outside their community. Prenna does as she’s told, believing she can help prevent the plague that will one day ravage the earth.

But everything changes when Prenna falls for Ethan Jarves.

I am not a romance loving person but this had a fairy good storyline. To me this book had only hints of romance so if your like me an don't like romance in your books this is a good book for you.

Knight Assassin by Rima Jean

Hey all this is a very magical book with supernatural roots its quite interesting and I'll let you read the excerpt yourselves

Seventeen-year-old Zayn has special powers she cannot control—powers that others fear and covet. Powers that cause the Templar Knights to burn Zayn’s mother at the stake for witchcraft.
When a mysterious stranger tempts Zayn to become the first female member of the heretical Assassins, the chance to seek her revenge lures her in. She trains to harness her supernatural strength and agility, and then enters the King of Jerusalem's court in disguise with the assignment to assassinate Guy de Molay, her mother’s condemner.
But once there, she discovers Earic Goodwin, the childhood friend who still holds her heart, among the knights—and his ocean-blue eyes don’t miss a thing. Will vengeance be worth the life of the one love she has left?
I recommend this for someone that likes books like Past Midnight by Mara Purnhagen.
